World Cultures – Myths, Folktales & Animal Stories
Let’s go on adventure – a reading adventure! This course is a five-week unit designed to build confidence, proficiency and enjoyment in reading. Students will develop reading comprehension by analyzing story structure, remembering key vocabulary words, and practicing critical thinking skills. Student adventures include exploring a variety of myths, folktales and classic animal stories. Each lesson concludes with a review game such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire? or Jeopardy!
Reading comprehension is more than the ability to pronounce words or recognize grade level vocabulary. Being able to recognize important details, identify the main idea, and understand the author’s intent are lifelong skills. Students in this course will learn how determine sequence and author’s perspective while analyzing a diverse selection of short fiction.
